I would think that everything would be the same for them.

Drops aren't completely random. I'm sure of this. However, they also aren't based on the amount of damage you do, or the amount of hits, or the amount of damage you receive, or the amount of hits taken. I've tested all of those and none of those are what it's based on. At least, none of those alone. It could be a combination. However, I am quite sure that they aren't completely random.

is it assigned to players in group in a per-determined order?
or maybe quality of the drops plays a role too? for example,
playerA got: junk, junk, junk, junk
playerB got: junk, rare item, junk
next item dropped is a rare item, then it'll be reservered for playerA even thought A got more loot count already?
maybe the game keeps loot count table like,
playerA junk loot count: 4
playerB junk loot count: 2
playerA good loot count: 0
playerB good loot count: 1
so now if a junk loot drops, it goes to B. next junk item would go to B again because B would be still behind on junk loot count.
if a good loot drops, it goes to A.
I am still new to GW, so just some guesses here. but i am a programmer so I tend to think in wired "logical" way

It is not pre-determined, although there isn't much of a way to disprove it.

Thoughout playing a Ranger, than a E/Mo, then a Mesmer, I found the E/Mo got more drops. Somewhere along the lines it has to do with supply and demand of how many of each profession is out there. That explains why my E/Mo and other Warriors seem to get drops more often.

this topic is becoming more and more mysterious
does ANet count all the experimental level 1 characters I created, never deleted and still sitting in my account?

In my experience with an E/Mo, N/Me and W/R all get roughly the same amount of loot drops. I think it's just that with the larger parties the chance of you getting a drop off one enemy decreases and can appear as if you're not getting much. If you are in a party of 4 and go up against 4 enemies you are usually likely to get one drop most of the time. if you are facing 4 enemies in a group of 8, you might not get anything.
If in doubt, solo you get all the drops then....

If I were a college student, I'd use this thread as a psychology experiment. It made me laugh outloud.
FACT: In a party of 8, you have a 1 in 8 chance of getting EVERY SINGLE DROP.
A similar FACT: In a party of 4, you have a 1 in 4 chance of getting EVERY SINGLE DROP.
Yes, henchmen count towards the party total.
No, it doesn't matter what you do, who you do it to, how often you do it, or how many letters your character name has.
The funny thing is, due to the nature of randomness and the tendency of the human mind to come up with complicated superstitions surrounding random events, I, and anyone else, can state the facts as many times as we want, and most people still won't believe it.
So, with that in mind...
I find that I get WAAY more gold items the more gold dyed clothing I wear. Same with purple. Blue isn't worth it, though, because you have to mix silver dye with blue to get the right light-blue shade, and it's too expensive for the quality of the drops.
Try it!
